A piece of artistic heritage in your home…

Furniture carries great value as historical documents; each piece reflects the era in which it was built and can therefore tell us a great deal.

The concept of preserving our country's artistic and heritage is now an established principle we all share and respect. Once upon a time, the recovery and reuse of furniture was far from a given. The need to survive and cope with daily challenges prevailed, and everything was sacrificed for the most pressing needs and survival. A piece of furniture no longer functional was reused and eventually used as firewood. During the French Revolution, for example, furniture from the Ancien Régime was transformed by removing or modifying monarchical emblems and replacing them with other symbols. During the plague, many pieces of furniture were painted black as a sign of mourning, while others were disinfected with harsh products, causing irreversible damage to the wood.

In the 800th century, many sacred furnishings passed into private use, such as some kneelers which were transformed into small wardrobes.
